Thursday and Friday 6th-7th

Thursday Sept 6th- I went to my Gender and Sexuality in Modern china, a comp lit class. Interestingly enough it was taught by an American man, which I thought was awkward as we talked about Chinese feminism. But whatever, the readings seem to be really cool and I definitely am interested to learn more about the subject. Thomas from the OC (the place, not the show) was in my class and we also went to shop another comp lit class, which as it turns out we couldn’t take. It sounds really cool, it is a pilot class/community project, but it is intense and you really have to speak Cantonese to do it. So yeah, then I was on the prowl for another class since I have to take 5 to get Bryn Mawr credit. It turns out now I am taking an Asian art history class. I think by the end of the semester I will be somewhat well rounded in art, music, literature, and politics of HK and China, which will be really cool. Then Thursday night I wanted to go out since I had no class, so I went with some girls from Patrick Manson out to LKF. They are really cool and really fun, and we had a great time. It was Ladies Night and we spent pretty much the whole night at The Cavern, which has these really good cover bands doing hip hop and pop and rock and stuff, and a pretty good dance floor. It was a good time hanging out with the girls. I do enjoy the craziness of LKF. There was a guy dressed up like spider man on the street. Also as we were leaving around 3 am some random people playing some sort of homemade instruments and people dancing in the street.
Friday Sept 6th-Then Friday I went to school because there was some sort of event for internationals. Usually I will not have class. Anyways, free food was involved. Also they’ve been giving away free Starbucks coffee which is pretty nice. After that I ran a few errands, and then met up with my HKU buddy and her other buddy, who is an American grad student. Thomas then called and said that he was going out to a jazz club, so I had like 20 minutes to get ready and go. But it sounded fun so I rushed and met up with everyone. It was cool to meet some more exchanges, from Columbia and South America and Japan. We went to Causeway Bay and ate at a Vietnamese restaurant, which was yum. Then we headed over to the Fringe Club. It was a really fun night, lots of HKU students who are inescapable I guess. Really good music, small club. 2 white musicians and 2 asian ones. Friends from Arizona, you guys would have enjoyed it, it was a fun atmosphere. Also some of the students I went with really appreciated it because they are musicians too. I liked watching the bass player’s technique and stuff. It’s good to have people to find some good music in HK. I also met some local HKU ers, which was cool.
