10-31-07: So Halloween is HUGE here in Hong Kong, we didn't really have any idea! I mean, they were really into the decorations, like at the malls and Ocean Park. On Wednesday we decided to go out to Lan Kwai Fong. It was INSANELY packed, we headed over at around 10. I didn't really have a costume so I just wore a sarong I got in Thailand. I went to go meet up with Remco and Jo and laughed for about 15 minutes when I saw Remco, dressed as a girl in a blonde wig and a pink dress. Especially funny because he is a tall Dutch guy. All these local girls at the hall screamed when they saw him (literally, not joking) and they all had to take a photo with him. Little did we know that this was just the beginning. We headed out to meet Gustav, and there was a huggggge line like a maze through the streets just to get into the LKF area. But being with Remco was like being with a celebrity, not even kidding. The street was filled with people in costume, tons of locals. Every time someone in a cool costume passed by everyone would cheer, it was such a fun vibe. It was cool too because usually LKF is mostly Westerners but there were a lot more locals than usual, and apparently they like to take pictures with everyone in a cool costume. So we got in line and stopped every 5 seconds so Remco could pose with excited people...there were professional photographers lining the streets, it really felt like the red carpet. This picture, Remco posing with some locals in costume, pretty much sums up our night:
We made it to LKF, which was basically a giant street party. We were going to try to get a deal to go to this club Sugar, but it didn't work out so we just stayed in LKF, it was pretty entertaining- creepy decors, drunk people in crazy costumes. We headed home around 4. But I must say, Hong Kong really knows how to celebrate Halloween. I thought we liked it at Bryn Mawr, but man..
